Saint Peter Claver
On Sunday, we celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Peter Claver. He was born in Verdu, Catalonia, Spain and entered the Jesuit novitiate at 20 years old. Following his time at Jesuit college of Montesión, he set sail for Cartagena, Colombia. After 6 years of studying in Tunja and Bogotá, he was ordained a priest in Cartagena. During his 38 years, he catechized and baptized over 300,000 slaves. He was canonized by Pope Leo XIII on January 15, 1888.
