An Inaugural Mass for Pope Leo XIV was held on May 18
Following the Gospel reading, three cardinals from the different orders within the College of Cardinals took part in the formal beginning of the Petrine ministry: Italian Cardinal Mario Zenari placed the woolen pallium on the pope’s shoulders, symbolizing his role as shepherd of the universal church; Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle presented him with the fisherman’s ring, evoking St. Peter’s mission to draw people into Christ’s net; and Congolese Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo offered a prayer invoking the strength of the Holy Spirit for the new pontificate.

Thank you to all who made our BBQ a success!!!
We want to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Co-Chairs of this year's Chicken BBQ Fundraiser, Debbie Dragseth and Mary Roberson. They worked tirelessly and laid out a roadmap for future, more successful BBQs.
Thank you to the members of the BBQ planning committee; everyone who helped set-up and clean up; all who grilled the chicken, prepped in the kitchen, served the food, brought drinks, and sold tickets. Thank you to those who ran the auction and those who gave an item to be auctioned off. We had people bid on 105 items. To the Altar and Rosary Society, thank you for the fun time provided while playing Bingo. Also, thank you to Team Earth who worked to make this a low-waste event.
Thank you to the Rondo Double Dutch Club who brought their jump ropes and fun to our event.
Thank you to Cub Foods for donating cookies and their continued generosity.
Last but not least, a special thank you to our anonymous donor of the chicken. We literally couldn't do this event without you!

In memory of George Floyd
Sunday, May 25th, marks the fifth anniversary of the murder of George Floyd. Saint Thomas More’s Racial Equity Committee invites our parish to join them for some time of quiet contemplation and prayer to honor the memory of George Floyd and so many other victims of racial injustice. Silent prayer is for peace and safety in our streets, limiting violence and promoting justice for all people, no matter who they are or where they come from. Christ welcomes all. The contemplation will begin immediately after the 10:30 a.m. mass, and continue in silence until 2:00 p.m. There is no need to register. Just show up for 5 minutes, or an hour. Just come.

Memorial Day Masses- Monday, May 26
Mass will be held at 10 a.m. rain or shine under the tent at Calvary Cemetry, Gethsemane Cemetry, Resurrection Cemetry, and a bilingual mass (Spanish and English) at St. Mary Cemetry. Refreshments will be at all the cemeteries.

Principal Terese Shimshock was honored at the recent Ascension Catholic Academy “Scholars Soaring into the Future” breakfast that celebrates 8th graders from Saint Peter Claver and the three other Academy schools. Ms. Shimshock has been principal since 2016 and has traveled the same paths with current 8th graders who were part of the PreK class in 2016. We are enrolling now for the 2025-26 school year for K-8. Kindergarten is FREE, and no one in other grades is turned away due to financial circumstances. Learn more here (stpclaverschool.org/enroll). The Preschool at Saint Peter Claver Catholic School has openings for three- to five-year-olds. Our program offers a high-quality, play-based preschool experience. Our program offers full-day (7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) and school day (7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.) options. Financial assistance is available for qualifying families.
